LOT 429 WF CO LANTERN

(Item: CAT73/LOT429)

WF Co – (Wiggins Ferry Company) on bell of 95 A&W double wire guard frame with twist off bell.  Comes with beautiful large serif letter WF CO extended base globe in rectangular panel.  Frame is heavily rusted and pitted and bell has been pushed down and bent. Still could be restored and certainly worth the effort.   The Wiggins Ferry Company was started in 1872 and was one of the largest carriers of freight across the Mississippi in the early years.  It eventually succumbed to progress and the business mind of Jay Gould who built a monopoly with the Merchants Bridge and the St Louis Terminal facilities.  The company continued to transfer freight until 1930.  Interesting history for the rare and uncommon lantern that will make a great addition.

MINIMUM BID $500
