Dedicated to the memory of my late husband, partner, father, brother and friend. Billy was born in Denver, Colorado on May 24, 1951! It was evident from the day he graced this earth that his destiny would be one that would leave a great impression on everyone he met. As a child he loved fire trucks, police cars and trains. As an adult he owned a fire truck and was a volunteer fireman, he was Police Officer in Minturn, Colorado and together we started Railroad Memories. These three occupations were actually a very small part of all of his accomplishments, but the ones that meant the most to him.
His finest accomplishment was our three beautiful children Amanda, Billy and Andrea. He was an amazing father, incredible husband and my best friend. In 2000 he was diagnosed with Stage IV Lung Cancer. He was given 6 months to live. And live he did for 5 years longer than anyone expected. During those 5 years we continued to expand our business, watched our oldest daughter become a successful Restaurant Manager, watched our son graduate from High School and College and thankfully watched our youngest daughter who was 10 at the time of his diagnosis to grow a little more!! We traveled as a family, we laughed on a daily basis and found strength in everything we did and learned to value each and every day. While watching him deal with the many doctor visits, chemo treatments, MRIs, hospital stays and all the while amazed at his incredible sense of humor that constantly helped all of us including the wonderful medical staff that helped him deal with this unfair situation.
We started Railroad Memories together in 1987 after taking a day trip up to Georgetown , Colorado for a ride on the Loop Railroad. We walked around town and noticed a small shop for rent. We came home and Billy made a few calls and we rented the storefront. This day trip turned into 20 plus years of dealing strictly in railroad collectibles through Mail Bid Auction. In 2000 we also wrote and published Railroadiana, "The Official Price Guide for the Year 2000 and Beyond". Which we proudly can boast sold over 7000 copies.
Together we were partners for 33 years in everything we did and his passing has left an incredible void in our lives. However, Billy was the epitome of life. He fought every day to squeeze one more minute out of what most of us take for granted. He taught all of us to value each and every day and we try to honor his philosophy in everything we do!!!
In closing I wanted to thank all our wonderful friends and customers who have continued to help make Railroad Memories what it is today and many more years to come!!!
The Knous Family,
Sue, Amanda, Billy and Andrea
